Joseph Underwood of Watertown

There seems to be a difference in opinion, Two different Josephs perhaps?

Who was his father? Martin Underwood or John Underwood?
I can fix this but I am loath to do it, without proof.
Curators? Those of you well versed in American genealogy (which is not my forte)?
This might take some time to untangle ...

Cheers DL

Hi DLD,

I'm on the case with some merging / unmerging / intergenerational implosions.

Thanks for bringing it up, I actually made a pass at these families before, so it's not totally unfamiliar territory.

Joseph Underwood is my husband's 9th gr grandfather, so I could try to help, too.

Tammy,

Maybe you could work on the documenting / sourcing piece while I work on merging up / down / around? Somehow I'm in the Eames now ...

He's a direct ancestor of mine as well. Just a sec, have to check which g grandfather he is.

He's my 9th great grandfather.

I don't have personal data for this side of my mother's family. But I'd be glad to do my usual judicious Internet and Google books scouting. I was about to get around to the Twitchells and the Underwoods :)

Hi, I am researching my Mother's side of the family, her maiden name was Underwood and she was born in Longtown, Cumbria. England. My oldest Underwood who I am completely sure of is Thomas James Underwood who was born on March 7 1823 in Nicholforest, Cumbria. He married Elizabeth Moreton Forster on January 13 1849 at St. Mary's Church in Stapleton. Elizabeth was born on September 4 1825 in Stapleton. Thomas and Elizabeth had 9 children. Thomas died on February 4 1910 in Kirklinton and Elizabeth died on June 8 1904. I have a few of his ancestors and all of his descendants I am completely sure of. I'd be glad to share this information if anyone is interested and I'd like to find out more about Thomas's family. I don't have my Tree on here as I'm a member of Ancestry, I don't want the expense of joining here as well.
Sincerely
Helen
