Has anyone ever considered a long term project on the dawes rolls.

The are a little under 400,000 names.

Best if started with an excel Speadsheet and uploaded into a GEDCOM (when they're allowed again)

I have the entire list but without dates of birth or age, anyone have the rest of the Data?

Be sure and add to the Cherokee History Project. It would be an awesome resource for research, which is quite confusing and difficult now. So the more you can simplify, the better off we all are.

I don't think we can do excel files, but we can PDF.

The Project is here:

Follow, then you can add yourself as a collaborator.

Can Geni handle a 19,00 page Document? Working on it.

:)

There are tools and techies and googledocs, best of all.

If it were me, I'd just make a google doc and post that URL in the Cherokee Project.

Then we'll get one of our techies to figure out how to load it to Geni more elegantly, maybe thru an API.

Any insight for Marv?

This is really a test

This List of 328,287 people is only a list at this time, I will Update it as I get more info/time

I do have a GEDCOM of this, but it is useless right now due to lackof info

The Five Civilized Tribes were the five Native American nations: the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, and Seminole

To be used with http://www.archives.gov/research/native-americans/dawes/rolls-index...

The above link does not work. Will try to wok something else out

Marvin, works fine for me, when I click on it. Perhaps you did a copy-paste instead? Geni tends to "hide" the ends of long URLs, but the address is still fine.

The link worked but the document never loads way to large

I have uploaded two documents to Google Docs

Dawes Rolls fIRST lAST tRIBE.pdf 31.2 MB this file is too big to convert will try to "shrink"
https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B0yP9H5qzgx5ODJiOWI2ZTgtMTViMy00MD...

Dawes Rolls_People_Report Alphabet.CSV 23.5 MB Also to big to convert

https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B0yP9H5qzgx5N2FhZGQ1MTctMDRhNy00M2...

I made these public

I may have to split files. Ideas?

I never used Goggle Docs before, hope they came out alright.

What happens to your Docs if you forget to pay your bill?

Where can I put the GEDCOM so others can download it if they wish (once I'm done)

Marvin,

I know I am related to Chief Red Bird and from what I have found out he is I think a cousin to Chief Doublehead and Cornblossom. Are any of these two people listed on the dawes rolls? I need to find one ancestor who is listed on the Dawes Rolls in order to have my family added as official Cherokee. I read that some of the sizemores could not be added to the dawes rolls but were added to the Creek Nation Rolls.

Chief Doublehead is my 21st cousin thrice removed. I know know that there are Doubleheads listed on the Dawes Rolls. Is Chief Doublehead listed?

I have a better copy of the Dawes Rolls and am moving this discussion to The Dawes Roll Project at http://www.geni.com/projects/Dawes-Roll

Tara, I'm going to have to put your question aside for now. Give me a couple of days to get organized and hopfully you'll be able to see for yourself. The updated list has all the roll numbers!!!
