At present I am in the process of sorting out the HESKINSes from which I, and many others, am descended. The problem with the Horsley HESKINS families is that most members attended Shortwood Baptist Church, so their names only occurred in the parish registers of St Martin's Horsley or in the Avening and Minchinhampton records when they were married. This was until Lord Hardwicke's Marriage Act was rescinded in the mid nineteenth century.
There are, however, extensive Shortwood records, many of which I have transcribed. The Members' Book dates from 1715 and the Burial Book from 1810. Land Tax records are helpful as are the records of the Overseers of the Poor, which list those who paid as well as those who received monies. In addition there are varous wills and marriage licences.
