I browsed through the various Mormon projects and could not decide where Joseph belonged. He was born in Ohio in 1811 and moved to Provo in the 1850's. He married a Mormon girl, Lutitia Shearer in Illinois in 1841. I have put a link to a lengthy biographical sketch of him on his Overview tab.

I did a search in the Mormon Pionner database and it does not look like he ever migrated to Utah betweem 1847 and the date of this death in 1852. So since he wasn't a "Early Mormon Leader" or a "Mormon Pioneer" then I don't have a project that he fits in.

Thanks, Randy. The source I was using said he did, but I am no expert on this family or on LDS matters, so I will accept your decision. I am not 100% enthusiastic about the source, but it's the only one I have so far. I couldn't trace the cemetery marker mentioned in the bio.

I like a good mystery... I did some more digging and found his gravestone picture on findagrave: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=pv&GRid=58512347&...

Here is his memorial page:

And his wife's: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=warthen&a...;

This should be enough info for me to send a request to the research historians to update the Mormon Pioneer database with their info. They have really quick turn around time and usually do updates the same day that the requests are provided.

It looks like Joseph's death is mentioned in the journal of Hosea Stout as extracted here: http://www.rootcellar.us/lifetime.htm

Thanks, Randy. I really appreciate your attention to this. I'm not even related, I'm helping someone else, so I didn't have much info to go on. My source quotes Hosea Stout but with no links for me to cross-check.

I am going to add you as a manager to this profile, since you are doing the research on it.

I'm not related either.

...But I found the family in the 1850 Federal Census living in Utah and I also found a record of their Illinois marriage. Note the 1850 census indicates "Jersey" as his birthplace and not "Ohio". I uploaded his grave marker as his profile picture.

I've updated his profile with all the info I found.

The Warthen family has now been added to the Mormon Pioneer database based on the research that you and I turned up.

thanks for the link -- I don't do a lot of work in Mormon trees, just when helping others, so good sources are extra valuable to me.
