My Grandfather was Joseph Francis Walsh, son of Michael Francis Walsh who told me that his Grandfather was James Walsh from County Cork, Ireland. He told me that the family didn't always live in County Cork but had come there by way of County Tipperary, Ireland and before that County Killkenny, Ireland and that the family had to leave Ireland to survive and that they were very poor at the time. The path that our family took from Ireland to French Creek, County Allamakee, Iowa is unknown at this time but it appears that a large amount of the family is still in and around the Decorah, Iowa area just miles away from the French Creek area. My plan is to go there this Summer and find the gravesites of Michael Francis and of James and his wife's, Ellen DeWyer. I plan to be back in Ireland the last week of July through the last week of August and hope that with the information that I collect in Decorah, Ia. it will help me find out more about our family when they lived there.

Jim, we do know that the family sent time in Illinois before moving to Iowa.
