James married Ruth Trill at the Wesleyan Church Chippendale in December 1851. The witnesses to the marriage were Sarah Sonter nee Grono, James' sister and James Towner the husband of Ruth's older sister Caroline. James, Ruth and James' younger sister Jane were on the 24th March 1852 at the Wesleyan Chapel Field of Mars, Parramatta circuit at the marriage of James younger sister Anne 1833 to Simon Jacob James. Details from both marriage records. James and Ruth's children were Jane, married Charles Crick at Gulgong in 1873 and died in Gosford in 1939, Charlotte born 1854 and died aged 14 in the Richmond River district witnesses to her death Eyles and Towner relatives, her sister, Jane. the informant and Frances who married Thomas Mitchell from England and died in Sydney about 1893. Jane had 3 children and Frances 2 one who predeceased her. The other son married and emigrated to the US. After Caroline's death James Towner moved with his new wife and children to the Richmond River district. The James Mitchell who married Mary Ann Mann in 1853 had arrived from Scotland with his parents and sister Lilias in 1841. The James Mitchell who was having children in Albury in the late 1860's was married to Mary Ann Ryan whom he married in Albury circa 1865,
