My great-uncle, Lewis Paul Jackson Tate, served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He told me once that he'd had two ships "shot out from underneath him", once having to stay afloat in the ocean (South Pacific? not sure) for quite some time.
Today Ancestry made a bunch of Naval enlistment records available for the first time and I was able to find some records about him, yay! The downside is that much of the information listed is simply inexplicable to someone who hasn't been in the Navy.
Is there a seaman who might be willing to look at the sources on Uncle Lewis' profile and try to piece together the story for me? I'm very grateful for anything you can do!
