Most people don't realize that MANY Blacks tried to enlist in the war--World War II, but most were turned away. Maybe 75-85 percent were turned away from combat units, and sent to "support" units--road building, cooking, food and ammo transportation, latrine duty, field hospital, burial detail, etc. Someone can research the actual numbers.

Probably only 25 percent were "eventually" sent to combat units; with the rest going to these support units.
