Are they related to the Spence in Jamaica, West Indies?

i know that my gr. gr. grandfather was a merchant in st. vincents, i also know that his son benjamin must have been born there as there are no marriages and births under scotlands people. his name was john spence and his wife was ann louisa spence. I also know that there were spinster sisters also by the name of spence, who had a plantation, but it was ruined in the big hurrincane, and after that they moved to scotland

Hi Heather. How long were they in St. Vincent? Some of the Rutty and Swire family that I'm researching, left St. Vincent for Jamaica. Maybe the Spence did the same?

I dont know, it was the story that was handed down through the family, the son benjamin married a scots girl but was drowned when his ship sank of the isle of man in 1894. when benjamin married in 1885 it says on the marriage cert that his father and mother were both deceased and came from st. vincents
