Michael D. Pierce's knows little about the Pierce family and is merely spouting opinions. He has not taken any DNA tests and his own family tree fails miserably in that he has not yet pieced together his own ancestors. His letter should be regarded as nothing more than a disgruntled attempt to slander all the genealogy work done by previous authors. Captain Michael Pierce and his Men were slaughtered and tortured because a Messenger failed to deliver a message for help in time and instead went to a divine service. Had he done as requested, the outcome may have been different. Some things Mr. Michael Pierce printed have some merit: Captain Michael Pierce does not have a middle name. but assumptions or opinions do not take precedence over facts. You have to research. Captain Michael Pierce (the fourth brother) was born 1615, his Brother Captain William Pierce was born c. 1595, Richard Pierce the oldest was born 1590 and their other Brother John Piece the Patentee was born probably c.-1591-1594, after Richard, and was a leader of the Merchant Adventurers. There are a lot of mistakes in this genealogy. That happens in a lot of genealogy's but the majority of the work is correct. My Grandfather had a lot of personal photos, Pierce books and personally met with Barnard Colby, the author of 31 years of Percie's and Pierces. Barnard wrote thousands of letters gathering information from Pierce family members and that limited edition book of which only 500 copies were printed is what is sourced. I didn't just except everything that was written and have made the effort to go above and beyond with DNA testing to see who was going to show up related. DNA testing shows descendants of Captain William Pierce as matching, DNA testing shows the descendants of President Franklin Pierce matching, DNA testing shows the descendants of some Woburn MA. Pierces matching. The surnames Pierce, Peirce, Pearce and Pers match, just like the books say, along with others too numerous to list. DNA testing shows that the books written by Frederick Clifton and Barnard Colby are for the most part true. What testing has Michael D. Pierce done? Just because Michael D. Pierce says that Frederick Clifton's work is a fraud, does not make it true. That is called an opinion.
