

1st Lt George K. Beine enlisted in San Francisco, California on 9 July 1941. He attended college for 3 years and was an actor before he enlisted.
He entered the U.S. Army as a private. He trained at Camp Roberts and was then sent to the Infantry school at Fort Benning where he was commissioned second lieutenant. He was a graduate of Santa Rosa High School. He later studied at Stanford University.
On New Year's Eve, the 19th AIB was part of Task Force Huddelson which was stationed around the town of Baerenthal, in support of elements of the 70th Infantry Division.
1st Lt Beine was captured by the Germans on 1 January, 1945 in or near Baerenthal, France during the opening blows of the major German counter-offensive, Operation Nordwind, which was launched in support of the already fledging Ardennes offensive.
1st Lt Beine was taken to POW camp Stalag XIIB in Limburg an der Lahn, Germany. He was shot when trying to escape from the POW camp and died on March 22, 1945 in the hospital of Stalag IXB in Bad Soden.
