MILITARY SERVICE: Company H, 160th New York Infantry. Stephen G. Hopkins was 22 years old when he enlisted as a sergeant at Auburn, New York, on September 17, 1862. He was mustered into Company H, 160th New York Infantry, on November 21, 1862. He was promoted to 1st Lieutenant on September 27, 1864. He was mustered out at Savannah, Georgia, on November 1, 1865. He married Mary Comstock Haight at Auburn, Cayuga County, New York, June 9, 1869.

Rev. Stephen Grosvenor Hopkins, 83, died in Brooklyn last evening (25 Jun). The funeral will be held in this city (Auburn) at the home of the nephew of the deceased, Charles H. Steel of 59 South Street. The survivors are four daughters, Mrs. F. C. Blake [Mrs. Frank Cornelius Drake; AKA Emily Kent (nee Hopkins) Drake], Miss Julia Hopkins, Miss Ruth Hopkins, all of Brooklyn and Mrs. Harold Amon [Mrs. Harold Curtis Amos; AKA Ethel Woolsey (nee Hopkins) Amos] of Newark, N. J. One son, Winthrop Hopkins of Chicago, also survives. The deceased was born in Buffalo, July 23, 1840. He graduated from Hamilton College in 1863 and for a time served in the army. He married Miss Mary C. Haight of this city on June 8, 1869. He was ordained as a minister in Cory, Pa., by the Erie Presbytery in October, 1868. He graduated from the Auburn Theological Seminary with the class of 1868. He preached in Cory from 1868 to 1876 and he then went to Columbus, O., where he resided from 1876 to 1879. He supplied in several churches from 1879 to 1881. He was in Deposit, N.Y. from 1881 to 1890 and was in Palmyra from 1890 until 1896. He was a clerk in the customs service, New York for sometime.
