Frank Leslie Young served in the US Army during World War I in Company E, 38th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division under General Ulysses G. McAlexander. He left the United States with his regiment for Europe on March 29, 1918 aboard the USS Mount Vernon. Frank L. Young was killed in action on July 15, 1918 during the Second Battle of the Marne.

Prior to the war he was a teacher at Alabama Presbyterian College in Anniston, Alabama.
