About A descendant of Junagadh Krishnaswamy Iyengar and Varadan Family Ananthakrishnapuram

In the 1930s, ruler of Junagadh state Mahabat Khan's agri-horticulture advisor Krishnaswamy Iyengar experimented and grafted a local mango variety with several Alphonso grafts, sowing it in the red laterite soil in the foothills of Mount Girnar. The fruit that emerged had a golden saffron glow and a rich smooth pulp.

Kesar mango is the queen of mangoes widely grown in the gujarat state of india. It has a unique sweet taste. Kesar is characterised by its golden color with green overtones. The fruit is slightly smaller compared to the alphonso variety.
