About Aaron Copp
The Copp Family of New Hampshire by Frank M. Ferrin, 1940. Pg. 72.
Aaron Copp, s. of David Copp and Hannah Tucker, was b. Dec. 15,1729; m. 1st Martha Martin on Nov 7.1749 (CVR) and 2nd Sarah Greenough on May 22,1785. (Salem NH Town Records, V. 5, p. 177). He died about 1810. Appears last on town tax list in 1809.
He served in Capt. John Goff's Co in 1746, was on the roll of Capt. Hayzen's Co. for Ticonderoga and Crown Point, was a sergeant in Capt. Stories Co., Col. Scammel's regiment and wounded at the Battle of Bemis Heights on Oct. 1,1777. Was mustered out as his wound disabled him from service and pensioned for 30 shillings per month.
On May 14,1768. Aaron Copp and Martha his wife and the following children: Abigail, Betty, Eleanor, Joshua, Moses, all of whom came from Atkinson NH in March 1768, were warned to leave Salem. Dated April 3 (from "Warnings" recorded at Hist Soc.,Concord, NH., v. 5, p.47).
His 2nd wife, Sarah Greenough, must have died between 1800-1810 since it is noted: from Essex Inst.Hist.Coll.,V.LV, p. 242: "Aaron Copp once lived in a small cottage just between the Atkinson farmhouse and Downings. He was a great story-teller and could repeat all of Aesop's fables. When Capt. Smith and John J. Merrill were about 12 to 14 years old, they watched over him. Old Mrs. John Heard, who came from Connecticut and lived at one time in the Brickett house, kept his house. Old Aaron Copp was in the Revolutionary army and had a pension."
