Om Aaron Halseth (Norsk)

Arnt Olsen Halset Utvandret til Amerika i 1869.

Aaron Halseth, 81 years old, pioneer Sioux City contractor, died of cancer Monday, August 23, 1926, at his home, 905 Seventh street, following an illness of more than a year. Internment will be in Graceland Park cemetery. The deceased was well known to hundreds of the older residents of the city. He had lived in the house where he died for more than 50 years.

In 1869, he came to Sioux City and had made his home here since.

Many of the present buildings on Fourth street were erected by Mr Halseth before he retired from the building buisiness. Among them are the Sioux National Bank building and the building occupied by the H & H Shoe store between Nebraska and Pierce streets on Fourth street.

Mr Halseth was born at Opdal, Norway, March 26, 1845, and lived there until he was 24 years old when he came to this county and moved directly to Sioux City. Upon his arrival here, he began to work at the carpenter trade which he had learned in Norway and after a short time entered the contracting business.

Mr Halseth was a charter member of the First Lutheran church and until his death, was the only surviving charter member of the church in Sioux City. He formerly was affiliated with several Sioux City lodges but in later years dropped all his lodge connections.

Surviving are four sons, H. A. Halseth and Norman Halseth, of Sioux City; O. A. and S. A. Halseth of Alcester, South Dakota; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
