Notes on Abby Booth's father:

"Joseph-6 is the only son of Joseph-5 and Cely (Betsey) Smith who migrated *south* instead of west like the rest of them (except for Jeremiah-6 and Smith-6, for whom I have no further record after birth... did they die young?). Joseph-6 simply went over the line to Bristol, R.I., married, and died there some 40 years later."

Here is the family summary as I found them in Bristol, Bristol Co. R.I.:

Joseph-6, b. Middleborough, Mass. 2 July 1778, [Columbus Smith: Booth Assoc. Rpt., 1868], d. Bristol, R. I. 9 Nov 1840 [R.I. VRs], m. Bristol, R.I. 13 Mar 1803, Ruth Diman, dau. Timothy and Elizabeth (-?-) Diman of Bristol [R.I. VRs], b. prob. Bristol, 1783-84 [1850 Census-Bristol, a. 67]. We find Joseph-6 as Head of Household in Bristol in the 1810, 1820, 1830 and 1840 US Census, and as you can see, he died a few months after the 1840 census taker came by.

No birth records of children are found, however from a marriage record and a census record we find two Bristol girls who are strong candidate-daughters of the only Booth family in town. They are:

i. Susan J. Booth, b. prob. Bristol, ca. 1818 [if a 21 year old bride], m. Bristol 9 July 1839, Henry A. Manchester [R.I. VRs, no parents names].

ii. Abby H., b. prob Bristol, 1819-20 [1850 Census-Bristol, a. 30], m. Bristol, 4 Dec 1836 [R.I. VRs], Rowland G. Fish, b. prob. Bristol, 1814 [1850 Census, a. 36].

Abby, was found in the 1850 Bristol census, hosting her widowed mother. Rowland G. Fish (Head) with wife, Abby, and mother-in-law, Ruth Booth, a. 67, plus six children: Eugene A., 12; Joseph H., 10; Lousia H., 9; Alden B., 6; Byron H., 4; and Albertine, 6/12. All occupants were born in R.I. Notice the second-born male, a good onomastic clue further supporting the belief that these are the grandchildren of Joseph-6.
