  • son of Thomas Root, who was of Salem, Mass., in 1637,
  • when he had a grant of land, and moved to hartford, Conn., as early as 1639, and
  • was a weaver by occupation, and
  • removed to Northampton about the year 1659, “where he was one of the seven pillars for foundation of the church in 1661,” and
  • died at a great age, July 17,, 1694.
• They had children:
  • 1. Thomas, born Northampton, 1667.
  • 2. Abigail, born Northampton, 1668.
  • 3. Samuel, born Northampton, 1673.
  • 4. Hezekiah, born Northampton, 1676, who died young.
