The grave was the earliest in the Jewish cemetery in Jamaica.
The graves are marked with large slabs of stone decorated with skull and cross bones. The bodies used to be transported across the harbour from Port Royal (known as Pirate Capitol) for burial in the Jewish Cemetery.
Jewish Jamaica has a 350 year old history, with 200 Jews still living in the island nation with 2 functioning Synagogues. In 1700 there were more Jews in the Spanish Island than in all of North America quotes Genealogist Ainsley Henriques.
