About Abraham Hemingway
The descendants of Abraham Hemingway settled in the north part of New Haven, near the North Haven line. John and Abraham Hemingway, owners of the New Haven Iron works, are recorded in Branford village records as requesting permission on August 23, 1706 to erect a fulling mill and raise the dam on the Branford side, which they are given permission. They were given Mill rights. The forge and mill, and surroundng lands, stayed in the Heminway family for 150 years, until the death of John Heminway IV.
