  1. 25. Abraham Knauss (Sebastian H, Ludwig, Lukas) was born in Emaus, PA 1 March 1754. In 1780, he married Elizabeth Boeckel of Heidelberg Township, Lehigh Co., Pa., and settled in Upper Milford Twp. Here he followed the trade of blacksmith and became the owner of five acres of land according to the Federal tax lists of Upper Milford Township for 1785 and 1788.

Between the years 1786 and 1789 thirty-one persons took the oath of allegiance to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania before Judge Peter Rhoads, among them being Abraham Knauss. He further showed his patriotic spirit by enlisting as a member of the Fourth Battalion, Northampton County Militia, serving as a private of the 5th class in the 7th Company under Capt. Felix Good in 1782 and of the 6th Company, 3d Battalion, in 1785. In 1798 he purchased a farm in Allen, now Hanover Twp., Northampton Co., on which he settled. His wife, Elizabeth, b. 13 Apr. 1759, d. 17 Dec. 1821, from burns received while butchering. In politics, Mr. Knauss was a Democrat and took great interest in his party. In 1823 he was a member of the Democratic Vigilance Committee for Hanover Township and also the tax collector." He was a member of the Moravian Church and in their records is recorded as a Huffschmidt (Horseshoer). He d. 3 Aug. 1836. At the time of his death he owned 156 acres of cultivated land in Hanover Twp. and 10 acres of woodland in Moore Twp. Both he and his wife are buried in the old Moravian Cemetery at Bethlehem, Pa.
