About Abraham Zook

born Oct 1, 1780 (KgEz p16) (ZkLz p27) - In the 1807 settlement of his father's estate, Abraham received a 174-acre tract of land near the new town of Allensville,. The land lay along the north side of the "Great Road" and was composed of parts of tracts called "Sharon" and Chew's Addition". Over the next two decades, 128 acres of adjacent lands were added to protect water rights along the stream, where Abraham had built a saw mill and grist mill. Legend holds that Abraham built the old house on a farm occupied in the mid-1900s by Emanuel Peachey. (ZkHd p. 210) - Abraham is remembered by his grandson, David R Zook, as a kindly but stern and conservative Amish minister. One wintry sunday when snow drifts were fence high and no members of the congregation had arrived for the church service scheduled that week at the David M Zook farm, the grandchildren believed that they would have a reprieve from the three-hour session. Not so, for Preacher Abraham arrived through the blizzard on his favorite white horse and service was held as usual with only his son's family in attendance. - Purchased part of "Sharon Lands" in 1808 from John & Jacob King - Minister, Farmer, built a saw mill in 1821, a grist mill in 1831. - Abraham and Barbara raised their granddaughter, Barbara d/o John, whose mother died when she was one year old.
