Early History of Sandyston

"By Royal Patent in 1762 Sandyston Township was established. Prior to this it was part of Walpack Township, one of the four original Sussex County municipalities." ~• from http://sandystontownship.com/index_011.htm

1840 census of Sandyston township Sussex County NJ

Sandyston New Jersey 41.250639, -74.800543
The 1840 Census records young Daniel, wife and children: in Sandyston Township : a small rural township in Sussex County, New Jersey, United States, located in the northwestern part of the state near the Pennsylvania border. The township is currently surrounded by and part of many national and state parks. There are several De Groats in page 12

Samuel de G: - 1 - 1 - - - 1 (and older aged family
Daniel (ours) 2 1 - - 1 1 - - (FOUR MALE CHILDREN)
ABRAHAM De Groat: ONE MALE 70-80 & ONE FEMALE 70-80
AS for Daniel’s wife Rachel and female children, continuing Daniel’s line above, we see one female child and the mother

I’d would guess that Samuel is Daniel’s father and Abraham is Samuel’s father. The age ranges are Abraham 70-80 2) Samuel 40-50 3) Daniel 20-40… So, it matches the PA census data for Daniel and Rachel where they have corresponding numbers of kids.
