Reese, Ada Merle McGowen - Ada Merle McGowen Reese passed away September 4, 2001 in Saint Agnes Hospital in Fresno, CA. Born in Stockton, CA on February 2, 1915 to Arthur (Arta Wayne McGowen (1871-1961, a principal and educator and Ada Alice Hinton (1884-1996 teacher and homemaker; sister Marion McGowen Koch (1912-1966 of Cape Cod, MA and brother John Hinton McGowen (1917- of Fallbrook, CA.

She was married in the Stockton Unitarian Church on March 2, 1940 to Lt. Commander, US Navy, Lewis Reese (1903-1954 of Stockton (deceased January 1954 in New Hyde Park, New York. Ada Merle McGowen Reese's children are Cedric Lewis Reese of Sanger, CA, Jaine Elizabeth Reese of Palo Alto, CA and the late Thomas Arthur Reese (1950-1991. She is a descendant of John Milo Hinton (1844-1895 who came around the Horn in 1853 by ship and becoming at age 19 one of the San Joaquin Delta's youngest River Pilots. Ada Merle McGowen Reese retired in 1982 as a Social Service Unit Chief for San Joaquin County Department of Public Assistance. She held a Bachelors Degree in English from University of California, Berkeley with graduate study at Sacramento State College.

She was a strong supporter of World Peace, Human Rights and union membership to the the extent of being arrested for Union activities and placed in jail at a young age (California governor eventually issuing a pardon for the offense. She left this world a better place and we will miss her desperately.
