Excerpt from The Daily Journal July 31, 1908: Death of Mrs. George Davis Called Away Suddenly This Morning By Stroke of Paralysis Annie, wife of the late George D. Davis, deceased, died suddenly this morning at 7:30 at her home on North Second Street, the result of a stroke of paralysis, aged about 73 years.
At 5 o'clock this morning she called to her son Charles, who went to her bedside and found her unable to get up. A physician was at once summoned, and everything possible was done to relieve her, but all efforts in this direction failed and at the hour indicated her spirit took its flight.
The deceased was born at Bellefonte, but most of her life has been spent in Philipsburg. Her maiden name was Miss Annie Callahan, daughter of Charles and Margaret Callahan. She was married to George D. Davis in 1858, to whom seven children were born, only two of whom survive, viz: Mrs. Charles Pry, residing near Pittsburg, and Charles, of this place. Two brothers and one sister also survives, John and Wharton Callahan, of this place and Mrs. Celia Berkstresser, of Hublersburg.
The death of this kind hearted and highly esteemed lady, coming so unexpectedly, is a sad blow to her many friends. She was in her usual good health yesterday.
The time of the funeral will be announced tomorrow.
