Dear Madam,

Reference is made to your letter in which you request the date of death of Nancy Harmon, wife of Henry Harmon, born 1812, died 1879, said Nancy and Henry having married about 1842; she, born 1814, the daughter of "Sandy" Adam Harmon; also date of marriage of William Harmon and Annie H…. Harmon, parents of said Henry, and, further, data in regard to Daniel and "Sandy" Adam Harmon.

Data furnished by the Veterans Administration are obtained from claim for pension which have been made to the United States based upon military service or upon disability incurred in service.

The data given on your chart have been used in the search of the records but no claims for pension have been identified as those based upon service of your ancestors named above, except possibly one, a Revolutionary War soldier-Adam Harmon or Harmen, which might be of interest. His record is given below as found in pension claim, W.754, based upon his service in that war.

Adam Harmon or Harmen was born February 15, 1764, in Shenandoah County, Virginia. The names of his parents are not shown.

While a resident of said Shenandoah County, Adam Harmon or Harmen enlisted in November, 1780, served in Captain D…..'s Virginia Company, and guarded prisoners at Winchester Barracks until April, 1781, when he was discharged. On his return from this service, he moved from Shenandoah County, Virginia, to the western frontier of North Carolina (later in the state of Tennessee) and settled on the Nolichucky River on the border of the Cherokee Nation. Immediately after his arrival, he enlisted, served six weeks in Captain Campbell's Company, Colonel Martin's North Carolina Regiment and marched against the Cherokees; shortly after the termination of this service, he enlisted again, served three months in Captain Scott's Company, under Colonals Sevier and Christie, did guard duty and went on scouting parties against the Cherokees.

Adam Harmon or Harmen was allowed pension on his application executed November 8, 1833, while residing in Hank's District, Washington County, Tennessee. He was pensioned Adam Harmon.

He died May 4, 1844, at his residence in Washington County, Tennessee.

The soldier married June 21, 1801, in Greene County, Tennessee, Barbara Barnhart. The date of her birth and the names of her parents are not stated.

Soldier's widow, Barbara, was allowed pension on her application executed February 16, 1853, at which time she was aged seventy years and resided in Washington County, Tennessee.

It was stated that they had several children, in 1865, the widow stated that she was residing with her daughter and son-in-law in Washington County, Tennessee. She gave no names an no names of other children are shown.

One George Copp, of Washington County, Tennessee,was the executor of her estate. No relationship was shown.

In order to obtain the date of last payment of pension, the name and address of person paid and possibly the date of death of the Revolutionary War pensioner, Barbara Harmon (as she was pensioned) widow of Adam Harmon (W.754), you should address The Comptroller General, General Accounting Office, Records Division, this city, and cite the following dates:

Barbara Harmon, widow of Adam Harmon, Certificate No.1354, issued November 9, 1868, rate $96 per annum, commenced July 27, 1868, Acts of February 3, 1853 and July 27, 1858, Tennessee Agency.
