Adam Hoyle was born in Lincoln County, North Carolina (not in Ireland), the son of Lt. John Hoyle (1740-1822) and Margaret Rebecca Costner (1745-1799). He was the grandson of the original emigrant of this family, Johann Peter (Pieter) Heyel (?-aft 1761) of whom there is much information and his wife, Susanna Catharina Muller who were married in Jeckenbach, Bad Kreuznach District, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Lt. John Hoyle served in the American Revolution and is buried in Grace Lutheran Church Cemetery, Newton, Lincoln County, North Carolina. Margaret Rebecca Costner was the daughter of George Adam Costner who was baptized in Endokoben, Sudliche WeinstraBe District, Rhineland-Palatinate and who emigrated, landing in Philadelphia on 16 Sep 1748 on the ship Patience. HIs name is misspelled on the passenger list as Adam Cassnar. He usually went by the name Adam (in Germany, the initial given name is a baptismal name and is rarely used by the person).
