ADAM JACKSONThe death of Adam Jackson occurred at his home in this village Sunday morning, August 30, 1908, after a lingering illness beginning with a stroke of paralysis a year or two ago, from which he did not fully recover.Mr. Jackson was born in Riccardton, Rocksburgshire, Scotland, March 24, 1828, and was therefore 80 years of age. He came to this country in 1840 with his parents, who settled in Andes He was one of sixteen children, who all lived to man and womanhood, and but one now survives, a sister, Mrs. Margaret Miller of Walton. In 1858, he married Miss Barbara Stewart, who survives him; also three children Dr. J. Stewart Jackson, of Denver, Colorado; Miss Elizabeth Jackson, and Miss Nettie Jackson, both at home.Mr. Jackson enlisted in the army at the outbreak of the Civil War, joining the Eighth Independent Battery, (Capt. Fitch's, of Delhi) and served until the close. Soon after the war he came to Franklin and purchased the farm now owned by Albert Squire, on West Handsome Brock, where the family resided until something more than 24 years ago when they moved to the villageMr. Jackson was one of those sturdy Scotch characters who are always loyal to church and God and country. He had been faithful and substantial member of the Methodist Episcopal church from early manhood, much of the time as an official, and exemplified the true Christian citizenship in all his life.His funeral was attended from the home on Tuesday at 2 o'clock, Rev. Elmond S. Miles officiated. An escort of veterans of the war accompanied the relatives and friends to the cemetery, and his early form was laid at rest where the soldiers' monument casts its morning shadow.Relatives from out of town present were Samuel Keator and daughter, Mrs. Ward, of Cortland, James Fletcher and daughter, Elizabeth of Andes, Mrs. Miller, J.
