About Addison Mixter
Going back several generations, Addison's grandfather was Daniel Mixter, who was born either in Massachusetts or Connecticut in 1775. The first name of Daniel's wife was Esther (nee White). They were married in New England, and spent all of their lives there where Daniel died October 29, 1841, and his wife on December 20, 1850.
Addison was the son of Rev. George and Chloe (Calkins) Mixter. George and Chloe were married on May 22, 1820. Late in life George became a minister of the Liberal Baptist Church. Chloe Calkins Mixter was the daughter of David and Chloe Calkins.
When Addison was a young man he came by train to Ohio where he met a young woman, Jane Wolverton. Soon after their marriage they moved to Iowa. After the death of their first child they returned to Erie County, Ohio, where they owned a General Store and opened a Post Office. Later they moved to Milan Twp, established their home on the east side of the Huron River. Addison was Real Estate assessor for the township and a prominent member of the Presbyterian church.
He attended church as usual on Sunday, but complained of a a severe pain in his head. He retired as usual and in the morning suddenly picked up a rifle and fired. He had suffered with severe headaches after being kicked in the head by a horse years earlier. He lingered on for a few days being attended by close friends and family. He died August 27, 1890.
