A. R. TINSLEY IS DEAD; WAS CITY TREASURER FOR OVER 25 YEARS ____________

Macon, Ga. July 10 - (Special)-

Addison Reese Tinsley, for twenty-five years treasurer of the city of Macon, died this morning at 11:40 o'clock at the age of 74 years. He had been in poor health for some time, but few of his friends were aware of the seriousness of the nature of his illness. His death occurred at the home of his daughter, Mrs. F. B. West, 504 Washington avenue.

Mr. Tinsley was born in Milledgeville in 1837 and while a boy his family moved to Savannah, where he was educated at the Chatham academy.

He enlisted in the Oglethorpe light infantry, the first company to leave Savannah. In the first battle of Manassas, he was wounded in both arms and after he left the hospital, he was detailed as a clerk for General Longstreet where he remained throughout the remainder of the war. After the close of the war he moved to Macon and after a few years he entered a partnership under the firm name of Seymour & Tinsley. Later, after the death of Mr. Seymour, the firm of Tinsley Bros. & Co. was formed, and at its dissolution, Mr. Tinsley was named city treasurer and has been elected by each succeeding administration.

Besides his daughter, Mrs. West, Mr. Tinsley leaves two brothers, Fleming D. Tinsley of Smyrna and T. D. Tinsley of Macon, a member of the firm of Jaques & Tinsley, and two sisters, Mrs. Thomas W. Troy of Macon, and Mrs. Henry E. Rees of Hartford, Conn.
