Adele Marie Garner, age 79, of Wharton, died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002, in Wharton. She was born on Feb. 18, 1923 in Wallis, the daughter of the late Anton Sliva and Christine Kucera Sliva.
Mrs. Garner was a lifelong resident of Wharton County, having lived for 60 years in Lane City before moving to Wharton in October of 2000. She married Clay Garner Sr. on Dec. 8, 1945, in Wharton. He preceded her in death on Feb. 11, 1973. Mrs. Garner was employed for many years as a cosmetic salesperson for various pharmacies including Vineyard Drug, Wharton Drug, and Wilson Drug. Most recently she worked as a secretary for Perma Pom, Inc. in Lane City until her retirement in 1996. She was Methodist by faith.
Graveside services and interment were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Paul Thomasson officiating.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Chris Voulgaris of Wharton; sons and daughters-in-law, Clay and Linda Garner of El Campo, and Dale and Nancy Garner of Victoria; sisters, Elsie Valenta of Lane City, Sidonia Tomaczak of Lane City, Mildred McCart of Wharton, and Marie Manofsky of Rockport; brother, Robert Sliva of Wharton; grandchildren, Crystal Burditt and husband, Jason, Micah Clay Voulgaris and Michael Garner. Three step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren also survive.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Tony and Sylvester Sliva.
Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren.
