Adolf Schwarz was a trade merchant and a chess player born on October 31, 1836 in Gálszécs, Hungary, now Sečovce, Slovakia. Being a young boy, he already started to see interest in chess. As he finished his chess training in Arad, Hungary (now Romania)*, he was deemed as one of the best local chess players. When he turned 20 years old, he went to Budapest, Hungary to "round off" his chess skills and also became editor of the Chess column in the "Ungarische Illustrirte Zeitung" ("Hungarian Illustrated Press").
In 1872 he travelled to Vienna and joined the local chess club. From about 1873-1883 he had a sucessful tournament career and won many games. In 1882 he managed to achieve #3 in the World Rankings.
The following years Adolf still played against some of the strongest local amateurs in 1909.
He died on the 25th of October, 1910 in Vienna and is buried there on the Central Cemetery.
