BLUFFTON -- Adolph DeWitt Malphrus, 64, of Bluffton died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006, at his home. He was born Dec. 1, 1941, in Ridgeland, son of Jewel Price Malphrus and the late Cordell Oscar Malphrus. He was known as "Woody" or "Witty." Most remember him as a cabinet builder on Hilton Head Island for more than 40 years. Others will remember him as being an outstanding boat builder. He enjoyed fishing in the Lowcountry. He is survived by his wife, Pearl Malphrus of Bluffton; a daughter and son-in-law, Dee and Ricky Comelli of Bluffton; a son and daughter-in-law, Trent and Pendleton Malphrus of Hilton Head; his mother, of Ridgeland; a sister, Abby Malphrus of Ridgeland; a brother, Pete Malphrus of Maryland; and three grandchildren, April, Jeremy and Trent Jr. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Great Swamp Baptist Church in Ridgeland. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Sauls Funeral Home in Ridgeland. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care of the Lowcountry, P.O. Box 24158, Hilton Head Island, SC 29925-4158. Sauls Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
