Brief overview:

Ageet (49), a member of the Greytown dog unit, was shot and killed in Greytown, KZN on 27th November 2007. He and his colleague, Navin Maharaj, who were both off duty at the time, were driving past the Greytown supermarket whilst an armed robbery was in progress. The armed gang ran from the supermarket and shot at them, killing Mewa and wounding Maharaj. The perpetrators then robbed a security guard of his gun and at gunpoint robbed three men of their vehicles and sped off.

    • The accused are charged with murder, attempted murder, aggravated robbery, vehicle theft, and possession of five AK47 fully automatic rifles and three semi-automatic handguns. The serial numbers of one of the firearms has been erased. They also had 160 live rounds. The accused are charged with Mdlolo’s murder on the basis of common purpose and that they knew that they could meet with resistance, but nevertheless pressed on with their mission, as well as with the murder of Mewa. Acting Judge Kobus Booyens adjourned the trial to November 11th in the Scottburgh circuit court.
