Agnes Burnley

Agnes Rayner was born in 1553 in Halifax, Yorkshire, , England. Her parents were Richner Rayner (1510 - 1570) and Isabella Gawkroger (1530 - ~1558).

Agnes married William Burnley (1550 - 1603) on December 13, 1574 in Elland, Yorkshire.[1]

Their daughter was Margaret (Burnley) Smith (1575 - ~1622). (see notes - her baptism shows a different father).

Agnes died in 1581 in Yorkshire, aged ~28.

Research Notes

There is a baptism on 9 November 1553 at Halifax for Agnes daughter of Richard Rayner of Sowerby.[2] This has been used on many trees but may possibly be a different person, as Agnes's father Richard lived at Elland at the time of his marriage and so did Agnes at the time of hers. Parish registers at Elland do not start until 1559 so there would be no record of a baptism before that.

The daughter Margaret attached is shown with a baptism 30 October 1575 at Calverley. This shows her father as John Burnley of Idle, not William.[3] Her biography is showing her father as John but she is still attached to William.

William Burnley of Elland and John Burnley of Idle seem to be two different people so there is nothing to connect Agnes and Margaret as mother and daughter at the moment.
