4 Agnes Jane Laird, b on Kerr s Creek, in Rockbridge Co., Va, Aug. 30, 1844=Capt. John Preston Moore, son of William. T. Moore and Nancy Welch Wilson, Sept. 29, 1868. Capt. Moore was b on Kerr s Creek, in Rockbridge Co., Va, Fob. 26, 1841, and was educated in Rockbridge and Augusta Counties, Va. He commanded a company of volunteers from Rockbridge County in the Southern army, in the war between the States, and was twice wounded (very severely), in the battle of Port Republic, Va, June 9, 1862. Being permanently disabled by his wounds from field service, in 1863, he was made enrolling officer of Bath County, Va, and, in 1864, was appointed by the secretary of War, commandant of the military post at Lexington, Va, and served as such until the end of the war. After its close he was deputy sheriff from Nov. 6, 1865, to May 2, 1870, when he became clerk of the county court of his native county, and served as such, continuously, until July 1, 1893—a period of more than 23 years. Soon after retiring from the clerk's office, he began the practice of law, in Lexington, Va, associating with him his son, under the firm name of Moore & Moore, and they together have since enjoyed an extensive practice,
