About Albert Ainbinder
Always smoking a cigar!
Date of birth: In the 1900 census, taken on June 13, 1900, Albert is listed as the youngest child (3 years old), and his parents reported that his date of birth was July 1986. He always said that he was younger than he actually was - he may not have known. In 1918 on his draft registration card he wrote that he was born in 1898, and he said he was 18 years old when he married 16-year old Bessie in 1917 when he was actually 21 years old.
Occupation: owned restaurants, bars & grills, nightclubs with showgirls, etc. During Prohibition (1919-1933) he made bath tub gin and owned speakeasies. After that in Rockaway, Long Island, he owned a large nightclub that had dinner shows; tons of waiters; a large bar. In the summer there was an outside area to wait for tables. Large horseshoe crabs would climb up onto the beach right there. They lived above the restaurant. This is where Dutch (Al's nephew) met his wife Lillie, who was a singer for Albert's nightclub. On the 1930 census, Albert is listed as a "shareholder of a cafe".
