One source thought that Albert was abandoned by his father (John) after John's first wife (Albert's mother passed away when Albert was 6 years old). It goes on to say that Albert lived with relatives and on the streets. But Mary Elizabeth passed away 8/12/1879 when Albert was about 10 years old, if the dates are correct. And Albert and Mary Elizabeth had 3 more children after Albert.
