About Albert Curtis Browning

GEDCOM Note

Stephen Curtis Harrison was not named after this Curtis. I did not know about him at the time of Steve's birth.

Birth place could have been Noel as per a funeral notice. A note says born "near" Elk Springs which was near Noel. Elk Springs was later called Madge.

1880 McDonald Co,MO, census, Bertie (Albert Curtis) was listed as 2 yrs.

In 1897, Albert was said to have been "of" Madge, McDonald Co., MO - also noted on marriage license.

1919 he was a landowner - Cleora, OK.

Marriage took place at Stephen Kirk's house, I am led to believe.

He was 19 at the time of marriage.

A.B. was used because his cousin had the same name (Albert Curtis). The "B" may have been because they called him Bert or Bertie.

Had a note on Albert Curtis' handwritten family sheet (in the margin), "Leora Barnwell (Smith)" - don't know who this is - Alice Alison Agins does not know either - Nor does Norma Huff (5-8-99)

Lived to be 77 - died at home - Lived in Delaware Co., Northeast OK. Was a member of Cleora Baptist Church. Native of Noel, MO, but lived in Tulsa, OK until his death. Service was held at Cleora school auditorium and burial was at McLaughlin Cemetery in Cleora. I have a picture taken in McLaughlin Cemetery of the stone. It is labeled A.B. Browning (not his legal name) Five daughters and five sons were mentioned in the newspaper:

Lola Jones, Arlington CA

Beulah Conner, Ventura CA

Thelma Willis, Ventura CA

Geneva Ames, Ventura CA

Avis Lubis, Long Beach CA

Ervin Browning, Tulsa OK

Charles Browning, Tulsa OK

Francis Browning, Tulsa OK

Melvin Browning, Afton OK

Paul Browning, Downey CA

There were 10 children, 25 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.

18 May, 1980 there was a family reunion at the Browning Farm. All 10 children were there except for Avis.

8 July 1989 there was a Browning family reunion planned to take place at the farm.

Another death date was found 24 Aug 1954. Place of death likely Tulsa, OK
