3/1/1836 headed west, a solitary horseman, followed such trails as then existed along the southern shore of Lake Erie, he passed Buffalo, Cleveland and Sandusky he did not like Chicago so he sold his horse and now went on foot alone through woods passing on occasion an cabin until he reached the little settlement where Kenosha now stands and then on to the mouth of Root River, where less than 100 men had staked out a city in the woods and so he was satisfied and started at once to work to arrange for the establishment of his father's family and his own.His sister Mary (Mrs Alfred Cary) came in the summer to keep house, then 8/29 the rest came from Vermont to the shores of Lake Ontario in sleighs, and meantime been augmented by the birth of an infant daughter Jane G arrived at Racine.
A man of Great Character!
Almost lived 50 years in Racine and never regretted his choice.
