Son of Albert J Nathan (born September 10, 1867, in Altona, Germany) and Cordie E. Duke (born February 1870 in Kanwaka, Kansas). His father was a railroad engineer and he moved the family to Tangier, Morocco, North Africa, about 1895. They returned to the U.S. in 1905 and were living in New York at the time. There were 8 children in the family with the last 4 born in Africa. Albert Fay Nathan was the only child who did not have the middle name Duke. Cordie Duke's parents are Matthew Duke and Samantha J Martin.
