Albert 'Al' Post

Albert Weert (Al) Post, a longtime member of the Kingfisher community, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Feb. 2, 2019.

He was born near Okarche on Aug. 23, 1929, to W.B. (Bill) and Sarah Gleichman Post.

Albert was a lifelong member of the Lutheran church. He was baptized as an infant at St. John’s, Okarche, and confirmed in the faith at Emmanuel Lutheran, Kingfisher, where he was a devout supporter of his church, holding several positions on the Church Council over a span of many years.

His early education started at St. John’s Lutheran School where he attended for his first five years. Albert moved with his family to the Big 4 community, where he completed his primary education and graduated from Big 4 High School in 1947.

He went on to complete a bachelor of science degree in accounting from the University of Oklahoma. Upon graduation, he returned to his hometown to pursue a lifelong career in accounting and other business interests.

Albert married his high school sweetheart, Evelyn Copeland, on March 21, 1953, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. They enjoyed 65 years of marriage filled with many memories of family and friends.

Early in Al’s career, he was hired by Solomon Agency where he worked in the accounting division. He would later become a business owner by acquiring the accounting division as well as part interest in the insurance and abstract divisions of Solomon Agency.

Al was a licensed Public Accountant, Enrolled Agent, Abstractor and Title Agent and enjoyed over 50 years of practice in the accounting division before his retirement in 2002. One of his greatest joys was the friendships he formed with many of his clients.

Along with his busy practice, he was also active in a number of district and state accounting organizations and served his community as auditor for a number of schools, cities and towns in Kingfisher and surrounding counties.

He also served as financial advisor and prepared the budget for Kingfisher County for many years.

Al was civic-minded and served his community in many capacities. He was a past president of the Kingfisher Chamber of Commerce; served on the Advisory Board to Kingfisher Regional Hospital; and was a board member of the Kingfisher Federal Savings and Loan.

Although he loved his profession, he never lost his love for the farm where he was raised. After spending long hours in the office, he spent many hours working the farm that he loved.

Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers Raymond and Dennis; sisters-in-law Virginia Post and Katherine Copeland; brothers-in-law Alvin Schroeder, Eugene Copeland, Glen Copeland, Leonard Copeland and Don Hixon.

Left to mourn him are his wife, Evelyn, of the home; son David Post and wife Paula, and daughter Sheila Thomas and husband Max, all of Kingfisher; four grandchildren, Sarah (Austin) Morgan, Stacy (Jake) Winkle, Courtney (Seth) Bacon, all of Edmond, and Kurt Thomas of Enid; five great-granddaughters, Elizabeth, Claire and Allie Morgan and Caroline and Emily Winkler; sister, Dorothy Schroeder of Kingfisher; sisters-in-law Margaret Hixon of Crescent, Carolyn Copeland of Kingfisher, and Janet Copeland of Oklahoma City; as well as several nieces, nephews and many wonderful family members and friends.

Services are 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Kingfisher.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Kingfisher Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Kingfisher Meals-on-Wheels or the charity of your choice.
