Albie Greyling

Albie Greyling (1981 - 2007)

Brief overview:

Albie (25), was shot dead, a bullet to the forehead, when he arrived home at his mother's guesthouse, in Eldoraigne, Centurion on 2nd February 2007.

Susanna Greyling (60), was overpowered by three males, in one of the guest cottage on the property while she was waiting for Albie to come home. One of the perpetrators hit her on the head and instructed her to lie down. She stayed seated and a second male, who had a firearm, hit her again on the head with the butt of the gun. This is the perpetrator whom Susanna later identified in court, (in June 2010) as police reservist, Moloantoa Edwin Molokomme (35).

The perpetrators then removed her ring, took her handbag and ransacked the cottage. Susanna then heard a car driving in, and two gunshots followed. After the attackers had fled, she went outside and saw that it was Albie who had been shot dead. The gunman had fired a shot as Albie's friend, Martin Vermeulen, which missed him, but the shot fired at Albie hit him in between his eyes.

  • Even though Susanna had identified Molokomme at an ID parade, being the gunman, Molokomme stated in court it could not have been him as he was on duty at the time and thus had an alibi. The court accepted this as being reasonably possibly true. Molokomme was, however, convicted of being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and sentenced to three years imprisonment, suspended for five years.
