Obituary: Baltimore Evening Sun Tues February 28, 1961: Memorial services for Aleck Smith, 72, a counselor at the Maryland Workshop for the Blind, will be held at 7"30 o'clock tonight at the Towson Presbyterian Church, Chesapeake and Highland avenues. Mr. Smith died yesterday at Union Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Born in Rockwell City, Iowa, Mr. Smith was raised in Texas, but spent most of his adult life in New York. After graduating from Cornell College, Iowa, he did post graduate work in banking at Columbia University. He worked a short time in the banking business, but entered the silk and rayon field where he became executive secretary of the former Silk and Rayon Associates in New York. Ten years ago, he came to Baltimore where he had been active until his death as a counselor at the Maryland Workshop for the Blind. He lived at 6835 Blenheim road. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Josephine McMains Smith; two sons, Lewis Smith, of Kentucky, and Vermont M. Smith, of Rock Hill, N.Y.; two daughters, Mrs. Leslie Hart, of New York, and Mrs. Clinton Taylor, of St. Paul, Minn.; two stepsons, Robert M. and William R. Fulton, and twelve grandchildren.
