Fake Genealogy

At least three pedigrees published on the MyHeritage platform claim that the child named Alexander Bruce, here treated, whose baptism was registered at Coupar Angus in the County of Angus on 29 March 1730, is the man of the same name who married Isobel Sanders before 15 June 1745, the date upon which the baptism of their first child was registered at Kettins in the County of Angus. [NRS: OPR.294/2] MyHeritage The same claim was published by the Bruce Surname Y-DNA Project: Group 37-M269. IN84933 This is not possible, however, because Alexander Bruce, here treated, was only fourteen years of age on 15 June 1745.

The Question of Identity

Alexander Bruce, here treated, is the son of Patrick Bruce in Balbrogie, Flesher in Coupar Angus The name of his mother is not known, it is not recorded in his baptismal record, although it has been claimed that his mother was Jean Henderson He was born before 29 March 1730, the date upon which his baptism was registered at Couper Angus in the County of Angus, Scotland.
