Originally known as Alexander McConkey and born in Scotland or Northern Ireland, he was among the original proprietors of Pelham, Massachusetts and progenitor of the Conkey family there. Alexander is thought to have been part of the Scot Presbyterian migration from Northern Ireland which arrived in Boston August 4, 1718 on board the "five ships". He resided in Worcester, Massachusetts for about twenty years before the new town of Pelham was founded in 1738. Alexander was one of the organizers of the Boston Presbytery at Londonderry, N.H. in 1745. Alexander lived at Home Lot No. 55 in Pelham, Massachusetts, located along Pelham Hollow Road in what is now Gate 11 of the Quabbin Reservoir where a cellar hole and remains of an animal enclosure remain to this time.
