Alexander Henderson Galloway, Jr. was the third son of Major Alexander Henderson Galloway (1838-1921) and his wife Sarah Louisa Scales (1837-1901) of Rockingham County, North Carolina. He married Mary Eliza "Mamie" Gray (1876-1944) on 12 February 1901. She was a daughter of James Alexander Gray and his wife Aurelia Elizabeth Bowman, of Winston, Forsyth County, North Carolina.
Alexander Galloway was first associated with the Brown Brothers Tobacco Company, then with R.J. Reynolds Tobacco. He later was associated with the Wachovia Bank, and was a partner in Galloway and Jenkins Insurance Agency. Later still, he was manager of the Carolina and Zinzendorf Hotels.
Mr. Galloway was a member of the Board of Stewards of the Centinary Methodist Church, president of the Chamber of Commerce, a charter member of the Winston-Salem Rotary Club, and trustee of the Twin City Hospital.
Alexander and Mamie Gray Galloway had two sons, James Bowman Galloway (15 April 1906-18 December 1943) and Alexander Henderson Galloway III (27 December 1907-11 June 1982, m. Martha Bull Erckman).
Mr. Galloway was killed in an automobile accident on the Greensboro-Winston-Salem highway, in Guilford County.
