LAPSIS, Alexander J.

Alexander J. Lapsis, 93, beloved husband of Inez S. Lapsis, died peacefully Wednesday, (9July 01, 2009) at Brittany Farms Health Center, New Britain. Alexander was born October 7, 1915 to the late Alexander and Joanna Lapsis in New Britain, and was a former resident of Southington. Alexander was predeceased by his first wife Lottie Skarzynski. Alexander graduated from Sacred Heart School, New Britain High School, and University of Vermont with honors. He attended West Point Prep School and M.I.T. to study meteorology. Alexander was a World War II veteran and Captain in the 8th U.S. Army Air Corps stationed in London, England during the Blitz and sent out pilots on bombing missions. After being discharged, he went to work for The Hartford Insurance Co. in underwriting, later rising through the ranks becoming Assistant Manager in Cincinnati, OH and later became manager in St. Louis, Missouri. Alexander is survived by his children and their spouses, Melanie and Bob Schaeffer of Cincinnati, OH, Leonard and Karen Lapsis, and Lucia and Mike Ferland, his stepchildren and their spouses, John and Kathy Dolan and Patrice and Jeff Eleveld. He also leaves his grandchildren Molly, Chelsea, Christopher, Katie, Sloan, Eric, and Adam, step grand children Matt, Kelly, Carli and Kira, and beloved great grand children. Lastly, he leaves his sisters, Claire Galiette and her husband Angleo and Irene Valeriano, sister-in-law, Marge Lapsis and many nieces and nephews. Alexander was also predeceased by his sisters, Pauline Kurpiewski, Hedwig Dabkowski, Geneive Grunwald, Theresa Pauls, and his brother Alphonse Lapsis. The family wishes to thank the staff at Brittany Farms Health Center for their loving care of Al during his time there.
