Alexander Leonard's year of birth is not certainly known but his marriage record and his death record, supported by the census return for 1891, suggest that he may have been born during the period 1881-82, probably in 1882.
The Kamloops Indian School
Alexander Leonard's parentage appears to be confirmed by the Annual Report of the Department of Indian Affairs for the year ending 31 December 1890, which informs us that he was the son of "Leonard and Julia" and that he was seven years of age when he was enrolled at the Kamloops Indian School on 19 May 1890 Library and Archives Canada: Indian Affairs Annual Report, 1890 The school mentioned in this report must be the predecessor of the Kamloops Indian Residential School which was not established until 1893 Secwepemculecw: Land of the Shuswap

Alexander Leonard is noticed in the Canadian Census Return dated 9 May 1891, where his recorded age suggests that he may have been born in 1882 Canada Census 1891 Alexander and his parents and four siblings are noticed in this census return. Also noticed in the same household is a widow named Margaret Leonard, an eighteen year old man named Marshell Leonard, and a ten year old girl named Jane Leonard. Margaret Leonard is probably his paternal grandmother. The Death of his Grandchildren
On 24 August 1925 Alexander reported the death of one of his grandsons, name unknown British Columbia Death Registrations and on 28 April 1927 he reported the death of his granddaughter Caroline Leonard. British Columbia Death Registrations
Death
Alexander Leonard died on 1 March 1929. According to his death certificate he drowned, presumably in the Thompson River near the reservation. He was forty-eight years of age British Columbia, Death Registrations
