About Alexander John Morgan
Alexander and Elizabeth (Myers) Morgan. Originally from Kentucky, the Morgans moved to the Burlington, Des Moines Co., Ia area by oxen-drawn covered wagon in 1838. They later moved to and settled in a homestead east of the Eddyville, Ia.
Hand written passed down family records indicate Alexander Morgan may have been married previously and that Elizabeth Myers Morgan was not the mother of his two oldest daughters.
The oldest two daughters were born before Alexander and Elizabeth's recorded wedding date, April 23, 1824.
Also, Elizabeth would have only been 10 years old when the oldest daughter Susan was born.
In 1836, it was reported in a newspaper in Burlington, Des Moines Co., IA, newspaper, that Alexander and Richard Morgan were new arrivals. Their families may have joined them later as one of Alexander's daughters is said to have been born in Kentucky later than this date. Alexander and Richard are believed to be brothers and sons of Thomas Morgan Sr (ca 1755 - 1830). Thomas Morgan Sr. had moved to Mason Co., KY, ca 1797, probably from Hampshire Co., VA.
